Message from the Chair

Dear valued members and friends of the Hong Kong Architecture Centre,

I am deeply honoured and grateful to serve as the new chairperson of the Hong Kong Architecture Centre. It is with great humility and enthusiasm that I accept this role and look forward to working with and meeting each and every one of you.

Before I begin, I would like to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to our previous Chairs, Board of Directors, Committee Chairs and Members for their outstanding leadership and dedication to the Centre. With their effort, the Centre has made significant strides in promoting architecture in Hong Kong and has become an invaluable platform for architects, designers, and enthusiasts alike. HKAC has been serving as a bridge between architecture and the community, promoting public awareness and understanding of architecture and the making of a city. Through our successful award-winning project “10-Most-liked Hong Kong Architecture” and all-time-favourite Archi-Walk, Archi-Trip and Archi-Talk, the public can engage actively in bespoke experience and dialogues about architecture.

Looking forward, after the three unprecedented pandemic years, we will continue to build in-depth architectural knowledge exchanges for enthusiasts and at the same time, to provide a variety of public programmes that are approachable and fun:

Archi-Walk will have the new “Walk with Masters series”, the one of its kind in the city where you can have direct dialogues with the masterminds behind many iconic Hong Kong architecture. Apart from our Taster Walks, we hope to bring you to the new architecture in town through “Architecture Premiere” programmes.

Archi-Platform will bring to you new delightful crossover programmes for everyone to experience the impact of architecture on literature, culture, arts, wellness and history.

Archi-Trip is one of our most popular programmes. We have been to Turkey, Iran, Nordics, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and the mainland. We will explore new destinations for our architecture study trips.

Archi-Education will continue to work with schools and institutes to provide architecture education projects.

Archi-Net will be an active public channel for everyone to get to know about HKAC through the Metro Radio programme “doors2theworld” and social media platforms.

We would also like to extend an invitation to all members of our community to collaborate with us on customised Archi-Walk and Archi-Tour projects. We believe that architecture should be accessible to everyone, and one way to achieve this is by offering customised Archi-Walk and Tour experiences that cater to the unique interests and needs of different groups. Whether it's a walking tour for students, a guided tour for professionals, or a family-friendly tour that showcases the city's architectural heritage, we are eager to work with you to create a memorable and informative experience.

We are open to collaborating with architects, designers, professionals, educators, community leaders, and other community stakeholders who share our passion for architecture and our commitment to promoting participation and engagement in the built environment. Together, we will work to promote participation and engagement in the built environment and to create an architecture community that is inclusive, engaging and forward-thinking.

Last but not least, I would like to express my thankfulness to all members of the Centre for your ongoing support and contributions. Your passion and commitment to architecture inspire me, and I am excited to work with you to achieve our shared goals.

Thank you for this opportunity, and I look forward to serving you as the new chairperson of the Hong Kong Architecture Centre.

Warm Regards,
Sarah Mui
